Developing Lifelong Readers at Habans

Habansarticle3The week of October 12-16 was a busy one for Habans scholars as they focused on the importance of reading. This was the second year Habans hosted a book fair, which was put together by PRIDE, the Habans Parent Organization. Through Scholastic Books, students enjoyed access to a wide range of titles covering all reading levels and many varied interests. The week also included a Literacy Night, where families were invited to visit their students’ classrooms and learn more about their reading activities during the academic day. Scholars also took time to work with their families as they were invited to participate in reading-focused activities throughout the night.

Habansarticle1Principal Litouri Smith always enjoys this week during the school year, as he understands how important reading is to the Habans community. “Both events provide opportunities to instill and cultivate a lifelong love of reading in our scholars. We also get a chance to continue building strong relationships with our Habans families and provide them with tools to support literacy instruction at home.”
